Amid Custody Fight With Her Ex, Halle Berry Reveals That She Is A Domestic Violence Victim

Actress Halle Berry and her ex Olivier Martinez are locked in another custody dispute over their 13-year-old son, Maceo, with both parents giving conflicting accounts of an alleged confrontation.
Martinez claims Berry became violent with Maceo, allegedly putting him in a headlock and choking him while he was playing a virtual reality game. Berry strongly denies the allegations, calling them completely false.
She says the incident began when she asked Maceo to stop playing, after which they got into what she described as “playfully roughhousing” that became more intense. Berry insists she never put her hands around his neck or restricted his breathing and says she has timestamped video that supports her account.
Berry also accuses Martinez of resisting professional treatment for Maceo’s behavioral and neurodivergent issues, arguing that their son needs greater professional and child-centered support. Martinez, however, denies misrepresenting or neglecting Maceo’s needs.
As for the allegations that she physically harmed her son, Berry was unequivocal: “I would never hurt our child.”
She also described herself as a survivor of domestic violence, although she did not identify the person she says abused her, referring only to an ex.
The dispute also includes allegations of racially charged comments, which Berry denies. Her daughter, Nahla Aubry, submitted a declaration supporting her mother.
A judge has modified Martinez’s temporary restraining order, while Berry retains final decision-making authority over Maceo’s mental health treatment and education under the former couple’s 2024 agreement.
The custody battle remains ongoing, with Berry and Martinez scheduled to return to court on October 16.
