Relationship & Sex Expert Reveals Six Types Of Men That Are Less Likely To Cheat On You

You can never make a relationship completely immune to infidelity, but some choices can significantly reduce the risk.
Research suggests that one of the biggest factors in whether someone cheats is the person they choose to build a relationship with in the first place. But beyond the obvious warning signs, how can you tell whether a man is likely to remain faithful?
Some behaviours are easy to spot. If he is constantly checking out other women or openly flirting when you are together, that is probably enough information on its own.
But what about the less obvious clues?
According to relationship experts, there are certain traits and habits that may point to a man who values commitment, loyalty and stability. Here are six signs that could suggest you have chosen a faithful partner.
He makes time for his mother
A man who maintains a close relationship with his mother may have several qualities that work in favour of a stable relationship.
For one, maintaining regular contact with family requires time and commitment, leaving less opportunity for the secrecy and disappearing acts that often accompany an affair.
There is also another person in his life who knows him well. If his behaviour suddenly changes, his mother may notice unusual absences or shifts in his personality before anyone else does.
More importantly, a close relationship with his mother can indicate that he values family, responsibility and loyalty. If he was raised to treat people with respect, those values may carry over into his romantic relationships.
And perhaps most importantly, a man who genuinely respects and values the women in his life is less likely to view them simply through a sexual lens.
He feels worthy of being with you
This one might sound surprising, but relationship dynamics can influence how secure a person feels within a partnership.
Physical attractiveness is not the issue here. Rather, both partners should feel that the relationship is balanced and that they each bring something valuable to the table, whether that is intelligence, humour, ambition, financial stability, emotional support or other qualities.
If a man constantly feels that his partner is “out of his league,” insecurity can creep in. For some people, that insecurity creates a desire for external validation.
Attention from another woman can become an ego boost, particularly if he rarely feels attractive, successful or desirable.
An unhealthy power imbalance can also create resentment and self-doubt, potentially making outside attention more tempting. A healthy relationship, on the other hand, allows both partners to feel valued rather than constantly trying to prove their worth.
He is the same person wherever he goes
Imagine unexpectedly walking into a bar and finding your partner with his friends. Would you see the same man you know at home, or would he suddenly become a completely different person?
Consistency matters.
If he behaves respectfully with you but becomes flirtatious, secretive or disrespectful when he thinks you are not watching, that is a warning sign.
A trustworthy partner should not need to maintain separate personalities depending on who is around. The man you know should largely be the same man his friends, colleagues and family know.
When there is no hidden version of him, there is less reason to wonder what happens when you are not there.
He has genuine, long-term friendships
The people closest to someone can reveal a lot about their character.
If his closest friends have known him for years, they have probably seen him through different stages of life and have a pretty good idea of who he really is.
Men talk about relationships too, particularly within long-standing friendships. His friends may therefore know things about his past, habits and behaviour that you have not yet discovered.
Pay attention not only to what his friends say about him, but also to how they treat you.
If they welcome you, respect the relationship and consistently speak highly of him, that can be reassuring. On the other hand, unexplained warnings or uncomfortable comments about his behaviour should not automatically be dismissed.
Sometimes friends know exactly what you are getting yourself into.
He is deeply committed to a hobby
Whether he spends his weekends restoring old furniture, playing golf, cycling, working out or training for a marathon, a man with a genuine passion outside his relationship may simply have less interest in creating a secret second life.
Affairs require time, energy, planning and money. Maintaining another relationship means finding opportunities to meet, communicating secretly and constantly keeping stories straight.
Someone who is already happily occupied with a demanding hobby may have little appetite for that kind of complication.
And if his favourite pastime also happens to consume his spare cash, even better. Dates, hotels, dinners and gifts can make an affair expensive very quickly.
He has genuinely learned from past infidelity
“Once a cheater, always a cheater” is not necessarily the whole story.
People can change, although genuine change usually requires accountability, self-awareness and a serious consequence that forces them to confront their behaviour.
Someone who has cheated in the past and experienced the devastating consequences may understand the cost of betrayal in a way someone else never has.
Losing a partner, damaging relationships with children, losing a home or destroying the trust of people who once respected you can be a powerful wake-up call.
That does not automatically make a former cheater trustworthy. Past infidelity should never be ignored simply because someone says they have changed.
But if the person has genuinely taken responsibility, confronted why they cheated and made significant changes, their past mistake does not necessarily have to define their future.
Ultimately, there is no foolproof checklist for predicting whether someone will remain faithful. Trust is built through consistent behaviour over time.
The strongest sign may simply be this: his words, actions and values continue to line up, even when he thinks nobody is watching.
