Davido Shares The Emotional Tie Between His Mum, Aliko Dangote & Him

Long before Davido became one of Africa’s biggest music stars, he already had an unexpected connection to one of the continent’s most powerful businessmen.
The Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has been part of his family’s story since the day he was born.
Speaking during an interview on the Earn Your Leisure podcast, Davido shared a remarkable childhood detail: Dangote was the person who drove his mother home from the hospital after she gave birth to him.
“Aliko Dangote drove my mom home from the hospital when she gave birth to me,” Davido revealed.
But their relationship apparently didn’t end with that memorable ride home.
According to Davido, Dangote has continued to offer him the same piece of financial advice whenever they cross paths: save his money and be disciplined with his wealth.
“Anytime I see him, he still tells me, ‘David, save your money.’ He’s been saying that since I was a baby,” the singer said.
Davido also offered an interesting perspective on the lives of billionaires, arguing that their day-to-day personalities can be surprisingly ordinary despite their enormous wealth.
“Billionaires are the most normal people,” he said.
The singer has previously spoken about Dangote’s relationship with his family, describing the billionaire as a close associate of his father, businessman Adedeji Adeleke. He has also pointed to Dangote’s approach to spending and wealth management as one of the reasons his advice carries so much weight.
For Davido, however, the lesson extends beyond simply making money. During the conversation, he reflected on the entertainment industry and expressed hope that younger artistes can learn from the mistakes of previous generations, build stronger relationships and create a healthier music community.
The revelation has naturally caught the attention of Nigerians online, with many fascinated by the fact that the relationship between one of Nigeria’s biggest entertainers and one of its most influential businessmen goes back to Davido’s very first day.
Today, Dangote remains one of Africa’s most prominent business figures. As the founder of the Dangote Group, his business interests stretch across cement, manufacturing, food processing and energy.
And while Davido may have grown into an international Afrobeats superstar, it seems one piece of advice from his childhood has remained unchanged: save your money.
