Michael Jackson Had A Crush On Alicia Keys

Imagine discovering that the legendary Michael Jackson had a crush on your wife. For many people, that revelation might spark a little jealousy, but Swizz Beatz took a completely different approach. Rather than feel threatened by the King of Pop’s admiration for Alicia Keys, he saw it as a chance to create a special moment between two music icons — one that would become even more meaningful after Jackson’s untimely death in 2009.
During an appearance on The Real Report With Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda, Swizz opened up about how he discovered Jackson’s interest in Keys. According to the producer, Janet Jackson had apparently let the secret slip to Keys, telling her that her brother had always had a crush on her.
Swizz, who married Keys in 2010, recalled the revelation with humor. “I found out that Michael had a crush on my wife. In a cool way, but Michael’s a Virgo, so I don’t know. I’m a Virgo,” he joked.
Instead of making the situation awkward, Swizz decided to turn it into an opportunity for something special. He arranged for Keys to meet Jackson, hoping the two artists could share a genuine moment as admirers of each other’s work.
“So I thought it was cool to set up for her to meet him. Just for both of them to just have that moment as fans of each other,” he explained.
And the meeting did happen — at Jackson’s home, where Swizz and Keys got a rare glimpse of the superstar away from the spotlight.
According to Billboard, Swizz remembered bringing gifts for Jackson’s children and finding the singer in high spirits as he prepared for his highly anticipated This Is It residency in London. The shows were scheduled to begin in July 2009, marking what was expected to be a major return to the stage for the pop legend.
“Michael was so cool, bro. Just seeing him in his real element,” Swizz recalled.
Jackson was reportedly enthusiastic about the upcoming performances, even showing off some of the dance moves he planned to bring to the stage. For Keys, it was an opportunity to see a musical legend up close, sharing his excitement about the performances he had been preparing for.
Tragically, those concerts would never happen. Jackson died on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50, just weeks before the London residency was due to begin. What might have seemed like an ordinary celebrity encounter at the time became a precious memory of a superstar whose life was cut short.
But the visit also produced a funny story that revealed another side of Jackson.
While inside the house, Swizz noticed framed plaques commemorating Thriller leaning against a wall. The album, of course, remains one of the most successful records in music history. Jackson casually offered to let the producer take some of the plaques home, but Swizz turned him down because he didn’t want to seem overly eager.
Even when Jackson brushed off the awards as “just things,” Swizz resisted the temptation.
Beyond the amusing details, Swizz’s story offers a glimpse into a more personal side of the King of Pop. It also highlights how a potentially awkward discovery became an opportunity for two artists to connect through their mutual admiration. And thanks to Swizz’s decision to arrange that meeting, Alicia Keys got to share a moment with Michael Jackson that she would never have had otherwise.
