NFL Finally Releases Official Statement About If Jay-Z Is Headlining Super Bowl LXI Half Time Show

Rapper & Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z is reportedly set to take center stage at the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show, marking a major moment in his legendary career and a new chapter in his long-standing partnership with the NFL.

The announcement follows reports suggesting that the rap icon was preparing to headline the 2027 halftime show, which is scheduled to take place at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on February 14, 2027. Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, has partnered with the NFL since 2019 to help produce and curate the halftime show.

Reflecting on the journey that has brought him to this moment, Jay-Z connected the milestone to his musical beginnings and decades of influence.

“From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey,” he said in a statement shared by the NFL. “Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also praised Jay-Z’s contributions to the halftime show, revealing that he had hoped the rapper would eventually perform himself.

“For several years, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with JAŸ-Z and Roc Nation, and I’ve seen the extraordinary impact he has had on the Super Bowl Halftime Show,” Goodell said. He added that when the NFL first partnered with Roc Nation, he had one request: that Jay-Z eventually take the stage when the time felt right.

Goodell expressed excitement about giving audiences worldwide the opportunity to experience the rapper’s artistry, creativity, and cultural influence on one of entertainment’s biggest stages.

Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Music and International Content, similarly highlighted Jay-Z’s impact on global music culture. Having worked with the rapper and Roc Nation to bring major artists to the Super Bowl stage in recent years, Schusser said he was thrilled at the prospect of Jay-Z performing himself.

The halftime show will be executive-produced by Roc Nation, which also serves as the NFL’s strategic entertainment adviser. Veteran director Hamish Hamilton is set to direct the production. Hamilton previously directed Jay-Z’s 2003 special Jay-Z in Concert and Beyoncé’s iconic Super Bowl halftime performance in 2013.

The Super Bowl broadcast is scheduled to air across ESPN, ABC, and Disney+, with mobile streaming available through NFL+. Spanish-language coverage will also be available through ESPN Deportes, Disney+, and Univision.

The reported halftime appearance comes amid a significant period of celebration for Jay-Z’s musical legacy. To mark the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint, the rapper embarked on the JAŸ-Z30 Tour, which fittingly concluded at SoFi Stadium — the same venue slated to host Super Bowl LXI.

During the tour’s final night in Los Angeles, Jay-Z delivered a performance reminiscent of a Super Bowl halftime spectacle, bringing out West Coast rap legends Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg to join the celebration.

He also released JAŸ-Z in 8, an eight-part docuseries exploring his career, music catalogue, and lasting influence on hip-hop.

With decades of chart-topping music, cultural impact, and major entertainment ventures behind him, a Super Bowl halftime performance would represent another defining milestone for Jay-Z. If confirmed, the appearance would bring his journey from the streets of Brooklyn to one of the world’s biggest stages full circle.
