Snoop Dogg Announced As The Host For The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards

The West Coast is taking center stage once again, and this time, it has Snoop Dogg holding the mic.

The legendary rapper has officially been tapped to host the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, marking another major milestone in his already remarkable career.

The ceremony is set for September 27 at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, bringing the VMAs back to the City of Angels for the first time since 2017. The show will air live on CBS and MTV, with viewers also able to stream it on Paramount+.

Snoop will take over hosting duties from LL Cool J, who fronted last year’s ceremony in New York.

And honestly, the hosting gig feels right at home in Snoop’s ever-expanding résumé.

The rapper has spent recent years proving that there’s much more to him than his legendary hip-hop career. He’s become a familiar face across television and major live events, from covering both the Summer and Winter Olympics for NBC to serving as a coach on The Voice and hosting his own New Year’s Eve special.

He was also part of one of the biggest musical moments of recent years when he joined Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent for the star-studded Super Bowl LVI halftime show in 2022.

But hosting the VMAs is more than just another television appearance for Snoop — it’s a homecoming.

He first stepped onto the VMA stage in 1994 and has since collected 13 nominations and three wins. Over the years, he’s made several memorable appearances, including closing the 1999 ceremony alongside Dr. Dre and Eminem and teaming up with Eminem again for a performance in 2022.

Reflecting on the announcement, Snoop described the opportunity as a “full-circle moment,” noting that MTV and the VMAs have been part of his story from the very beginning.

And he won’t just be holding the hosting reins. Snoop will also serve as an executive producer for this year’s ceremony.

With more performers, presenters and special guests still to be announced, the 2026 VMAs are already shaping up to be another big night.

One thing is certain: when Snoop Dogg is hosting, nobody should expect a boring show.
